库车大寺位于库车市热斯坦街道，距库车新城4公里，始建于1559年，距今约有460余年，由喀什有名的建筑师艾山阿洪设计所建。清代末年及民国初年，几度重建和扩建。1931年毁于火灾，同年由库车富豪哈里木·阿吉出资在原址侧旁主持兴建，1934年完工。1998年由于库车发生5.4级地震，石门楼发生断裂，大殿墙体裂缝。2003年-2004年，库车县投入资金200万元对该寺进行了全面加固维修。

大寺外观高大、气势宏伟、古朴典雅，显示了较高的工艺水平，特别是在室内外的雀替都有类似于祥云造型的装饰，这种装饰在中国内地的古建筑中时常见到，即使得梁与柱之间的空白得到很好的美化，也有非常吉祥的寓意，这与中华优秀传统文化有密不可分的关系，这充分证明了内地建筑文化的流入。现为全国重点文物保护单位。

整个大寺规模为新疆第二大清真寺，仅次于喀什的艾提尕尔清真寺。寺院占地面积9040平方米，该寺主要由礼拜厅、宣礼楼、宗教法庭三大部分组成。其中：礼拜大厅面积2793平方米，内有8个小窗，外殿有84根木头圆柱，内殿有4根木头圆柱，柱子表面刻有正方形、六角形、八角形等图案装饰，柱头都刻有不同的装饰和涂以不同的色调。宣礼楼面积为148平方米，高18.3米。庭院内在90年代新修建了伊斯兰经文学校澡堂、卫生间等。
