克孜尔尕哈烽燧位于新疆库车市区西北12公里处，217国道东侧盐水沟河谷的东岸一戈壁台地上，烽燧东北距克孜尔尕哈石窟约1公里，是国家4A级旅游景区。“克孜尔尕哈”维吾尔语，意为“红色哨卡”，于2001年6月由国务院公布为第五批全国重点文物保护单位，2012年被国家文物局认定为长城资源，2014年，被联合国教科文组织列入世界文化遗产名录。

烽燧是中国古代边塞防御体系的重要组成部分，第三次全国文物普查和新疆长城资源调查结果发现并认定，新疆境内也有大量长城遗址，与我国内地长城防御设施不同，新疆境内的长城没有连续体和高大的城墙，而是根据地理位置的战略作用及地理环境不同，修建的星点状、片状分布的烽燧、戍堡军事防御设施，烽燧与长城军事殊途同归，起着保护边疆安定和丝绸之路畅通的作用。克孜尔尕哈烽燧是其中最具代表性的一座，据史料记载，克孜尔尕哈烽燧始建于汉宣帝年间，距今已有两千多年的历史。

克孜尔尕哈烽燧所处的盐水沟东岸戈壁台地视域开阔，位于汉代玉门关西行通往古龟兹、疏勒及天山北麓乌孙的交通要道。烽燧残高约13.5米，底边东西长6.5米，南北宽4.5米。烽燧夯土版筑的构筑方式是库车古代土木建筑最为古老的方法。其选址将烽燧的军事警戒功能与开阔的自然地理环境相结合，体现了人类为保障和控制长距离交通对自然环境的依托和利用。

目前，作为西域地区丝绸之路交通沿线，克孜尔尕哈烽燧是新疆境内时代最早、保存最好、规模最大的古代烽燧。其见证了汉唐时期中央王朝对新疆的有效统治。
